Where Creativity Takes Center Stage

Our Past and present

The Gordon Best Theatre, a cultural landmark in Peterborough, first opened in 1997 above The Only Cafe. The venue was born from Jerome Ackhurst's lifelong passion for acting, which he had cultivated through classical theatre training in the United Kingdom. 


Driven by his love for the performing arts, Ackhurst established the Gordon Best as a space where local talent could flourish and the community could gather to enjoy diverse performances.

Over the years, the Gordon Best Theatre has played a significant role in Peterborough's vibrant arts scene, becoming a hub for artistic expression and community connection. 


Now under new management, the theatre is excited to reopen its doors and build upon its rich legacy. The new team is committed to preserving the theatre's storied history while infusing it with fresh energy and innovative programming. As the Gordon Best prepares to welcome back audiences, it remains a beloved space where creativity and community spirit can continue to thrive.
